The NOAA Marine Recreational Information Program (MRIP) administers a suite of recreational fishing surveys, and produces catch and effort estimates to support science and management needs. To support the development and use of those surveys, MRIP has issued the NOAA Fisheries’ Recreational Fishing Survey and Data Standards. The standards are intended to support the program’s commitment to transparency, promote data quality, consistency, and comparability across data collection programs, facilitate the shared use of the statistics these programs produce, and ensure the scientific integrity of the data collection efforts and the quality of the recreational fisheries statistics.
