Perspectives on the Breastfeeding Journey: A Listening Session Series

The Board on Children, Youth, and Families of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is hosting a series of six listening sessions for the Committee on Understanding Breastfeeding Promotion, Initiation, and Support Across the United States. The purpose of these sessions will be for the committee to hear the lived experience of invited individuals and to consider their perspectives in future deliberations. The format of these sessions will be informal, moderated discussions among invited participants and committee members. Each session will be live webcast, with the recording to be posted afterward.

Description

The Committee on Understanding Breastfeeding Promotion, Initiation, and Support Across the United States of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is organizing a 6-part public listening session series on the lived experience of breastfeeding. The purpose of these sessions will be for the committee to hear from various invited individuals and to consider their perspectives in future deliberations.

Topic areas for discussion related to breastfeeding lived experience include the role of community coalitions, the experiences of partners and families, individual experiences in hospitals or other birth settings, perspectives from lactation support professionals, and return to work postpartum.

The format of these sessions will be informal, moderated discussions among invited participants and committee members. The sessions will take place in August - September 2024 and each session will be live webcast, with the recording to be posted afterward. Each session will be 60 - 90 minutes, depending on the number of invited participants.
