In progress
Since September 2016, the Committee on Human Rights has collaborated with Case Western Reserve University's School of Law to provide law students an opportunity to conduct research and advocacy in support of threatened scientists, engineers and health professionals through the application of international human rights law.
Description
In recent years, the Committee on Human Rights has led a program that provides law students an opportunity to explore the application of international human rights law to real world situations. For example, in June 2020, law students at Case Western Reserve University began assisting the CHR with researching cases involving scientists and public health experts throughout the world who have come under attack due to their involvement in COVID-19 response efforts. The students have also gathered information about attacks on medics treating protesters in the United States and are currently collaborating with the CHR on submissions to international human rights complaint bodies. This project, has provided law students a meaningful research experience and the chance to address pressing human rights-related challenges, while also allowing the CHR to expand and increase its advocacy program.
