Ceremonial Presentations of Nobel Prizes to be Held at U.S. National Academy of Sciences Locations in Washington and Irvine – Dec. 6 and 8

During Nobel Week 2021, ceremonial presentations of Nobel Prize medals and diplomas to 2021 laureates who are based in the United States will take place at the National Academy of Sciences.

Speaking at both ceremonies:

  • Marcia McNutt, president, U.S. National Academy of Sciences

  • Maria Brogren, science and innovation counselor, Embassy of Sweden

  • Anna Sjöström Douagi, science and program director, Nobel Foundation, Sweden

  • Karin Olofsdotter, ambassador of Sweden to the United States

On Dec. 6, 3 p.m. EST, diplomas and medals will be presented to physics laureate Syukuro Manabe*, chemistry laureate David W.C. MacMillan*, and economic sciences laureate Joshua D. Angrist by Ambassador Olofsdotter.

On Dec. 8, 2:30 p.m. PST, diplomas and medals will be presented to physiology or medicine laureates David Julius** and Ardem Patapoutian* and to economic sciences laureates David Card* and Guido W. Imbens by Ambassador Olofsdotter.

Note: All visitors to the National Academies’ facilities must be fully vaccinated and show proof of COVID-19 vaccination upon entering, and face masks are required. 

Ahead of the ceremonial presentation in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. EST, the Embassy of Sweden will host a scientific symposium at House of Sweden in honor of the 2021 Nobel Prize laureates.
